The Tocqueville Society was founded in honor of the French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville, who wrote about the boundless American spirit of volunteerism in the early 19th century. The Tocqueville Society strives to deepen individual support of United Way and its service to the community. Alexis de Tocqueville appreciated, applauded and forever immortalized the compassionate, passionate spirit that lives in America’s heart.
